Skyline High School's football program started in an interesting way. When the school began, many of the seniors were given the chance to stay at Olympus or move to the new school Skyline. In 1963 most of the football team was sophomores and juniors because the seniors elected to stay at Olympus. The first year was a tough year, but the team was scrappy. The first touchdown was scored by halfback Kent Hancey. In the latter part of the sixties the football program started to develop into a football power house and won two state championships in the last few years of the decade. Again, Skyline was a football powerhouse in the seventies and won five state championships during that period of time. They were coached by Ken Schmidt and Ron Haun and were favorites every year under these coaches. Ken Schmidt later became the Defensive Coordinator for the BYU Cougars and Ron Haun developed Rick College into a national champion football program. In the 1990s Skyline once again became a football powerhouse in Utah under Head Coach Roger Dupaix.〔(Millcreek Journal, ''Skyline High sends volleyball, football teams to state playoffs'' )〕 Skyline football peaked in 1999 when they won a fifth consecutive 5A state title. The 1999 team is was ranked 24th in the nation by USA Today.〔(''5A high school football championship: Bingham team could go down in Utah history'' )〕〔(''USA Today Super 25 Football Rankings, Final - 1999'' )〕 Overall, the Eagles have been football state champions fourteen times (1967, 1969, 1970, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2005). In 2005 the team went into the playoffs as the fourth ranked team in the region. Largely overlooked, they rallied to win four straight games, beating rival Brighton High School in the state championship game.
Skyline won state basketball championships in 1976 & 1977. The 1977 team was ranked nationally as the 5th best team in America with a record of 26-1.
Skyline's biggest rivals are the Olympus Titans. After Skyline beat Olympus in 2004 42-7 and in 2005 37-7, Olympus put the rivalry on hold by refusing to play for three years - in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The rivalry picked back up in 2009. The two faced off for the regular season finale in October 2011 for the outright Region VII championship. Olympus won the game in overtime, 42-35.
In 2014 Braxton Chipman passed for 367 yards and Michael Binford rushed for 148, but it was the Eagles’ defense that saved the game — and earned the Eagles a second seed in the upcoming 4A state football playoffs — with a 30-24 Region 7 victory. Until then, Skyline had not beaten Olympus in football since 2005. They returned the Rivalry Rock back home where it belongs.
Skyline's women's tennis team has been state champions three years running (2009-5A, 2010-5A, and 2011-4A) and took 2nd in 2008-5A. Skyline was one of the original 5A schools, when 5A was established in Utah in 1993, but decreasing student enrollment eventually resulted in Skyline moving to the 4A program in 2011.
Skyline's swim teams hold a seven-year dynasty (2001–2008) at the state competition.
Skyline's lacrosse team had its inaugural season as an independent team in the spring of 1997, after competing jointly in 1996 with Brighton High School due to a lack of participation. The team has been a contender for the state championship on a number of occasions. In 2005 Skyline won the state championship.
In 2006, 2008, and 2009 Skyline won the 4x800 meter relay at the Davis High School Track and Field Invitational. The cross country team won their 5A region, both boys and girls teams, in 2009.
Skyline's hockey team won the 2010 State Championship over Viewmont High School and went on to finish in the top 15 at the USA Hockey High School National Championships held in Chicago, Illinois. The hockey team repeated winning state championships in 2011 in a 3-2 overtime victory over Bingham High School.
Skyline's wrestling team went undefeated in region duals for 3 years (2006–2009).
